Jardin Living | Our Story

Founded by Kavita Basi

Jardin Living was founded by Kavita Basi, whose creative journey was shaped by two worlds.

Kavita spent most of her life growing up and studying in Newcastle upon Tyne. However, as a young child she had the rare opportunity to live with her grandparents in Punjab, India, where she attended a Catholic convent school for nearly three years. It was during these formative years that her creative imagination truly took root.

Immersed in Indian culture, Kavita developed a deep love for singing, dancing, art and craft, and the rich flavours of Indian food and spice. Surrounded by vibrant colours and abundant wildlife, her senses expanded in ways that would stay with her for life. She recalls handcrafting brightly coloured kites and standing on rooftops under the warm sun, watching them soar like flocks of birds across Indian summer skies. Evenings were spent running freely through open fields, spotting tiny frogs, delicate butterflies, soaring eagles, and fields scattered with wishing dandelions — moments that felt almost dreamlike.

“I was born in the North East of the U.K. into a middle-class British Indian family. My parents and grandparents, who were Indian-born, always taught us our culture. Growing up in the U.K. meant I didn’t have a single, clear identity. I loved Indian traditions and values, while fully embracing being British-born.”

Kavita studied Art and Architecture with the intention of pursuing a creative career, but her path led her into the fashion and accessories industry, where she spent over 30 years refining her understanding of design, materials, and craftsmanship.

In 2015, a life-changing illness altered Kavita’s direction entirely. Living with long-term side effects and navigating life as a neuro-diverse individual sparked a profound shift, one that led her back to her creative roots. Since then, she has founded ethical fashion brands, become a published author, a motivational speaker, and an ambassador for neuro-diversity charities.

“After my illness, my senses changed, how I experience touch, texture, colour, light, sound, and design. These shifts influence what I wear, use, and surround myself with every day. I wanted to return to my original love of designing and creating, while embracing both my British upbringing and Indian heritage.”

Jardin Living Home was born from this return to grounding and authenticity.

Our collections celebrate ethical home living through thoughtfully designed pieces made from earthly materials, with sustainability at the heart of everything we do. Jardin Living reflects a slower, more mindful way of living, one that embraces neuro-diversity, individuality, and connection to nature.

We believe culture can be expressed through the language of colour. Our organic tones and palettes evoke a sense of earthiness, regeneration, and plant-based harmony. Each material is chosen with care, honoring its journey and purpose, creating pieces that feel grounded, comforting, and meaningful within your home.

Jardin Living is about staying rooted to nature, to culture, and to self.
